The newly launched Horizon Prize of the European Commission for Social Innovation will reward the best solutions for improving travel mobility of older people.
The European Union’s population is ageing. This requires reconsidering existing mobility systems in order to meet the needs of older people and help to combat social exclusion and support independent living especially for those with reduced mobility. For this purpose, the contest’s aim is to develop innovative and sustainable mobility solutions for older people (65+).
The prize has a budget of €2 million and is funded under Horizon 2020, the EU's research and innovation programme. One prize of €1 million and four runner-up prizes of €250,000 each will be awarded to the most innovative mobility solutions that enable older citizens to continue to fully participate in social activities, maintain their autonomy and age healthily.
Submissions will be accepted until 28 February 2019 and the prize will be awarded in the second or third quarter of 2019.
