With 112 new project proposals to discover and evaluate, extensive cooperation between projects and EUSALP Action Groups and one RegioStar finalist, the Alpine Space programme has started the summer on an energised wave, leading to an autumn full of great perspectives.

In October indeed, five Alpine Space projects will be featured at the European Week of Regions and Cities and the most promising expression of interest will be selected for the second step of the call 3 selection procedure.

We will keep you posted and wish you, in the meantime, to have a relaxed and revitalising summer!

Third Call for project proposals: 112 expressions of interest (EoI) received!

On  28 June, the first step of the third call for project proposals closed.

We are delighted to see again a high interest in the programme, as 112 EoIs were received, which are currently being assessed.

On 11 and 12 October, the Programme Committee (PC) will select the proposals that will be invited for the second step of the application process.

The Alpine Space project SEAP_Alps is a RegioStars finalist!

SEAP_Alps (2012 - 2015) is a finalist of the European Commission Award for good practices and innovative projects in regional development in the "Energy Union: Climate action" category

SEAP_Alps has adapted an EU Covenant of Mayors concept, the SEAP (Sustainable Energy Action Plans), to Alpine regions, thereby providing local authorities with a joint methodology for energy and climate adaptation planning. In order to assist Alpine Space decision makers in drafting SEAPs in their own communities, the project has provided a platform for knowledge transfer and capacity building. Furthermore, SEAP_Alps has tested a new public-private investment concept, which allows municipalities to meet energy-efficiency requirements for buildings.

The results of SEAP_Alps are now being built on in the framework of PEACE_Alps (2015 - 2018).

Meet the partners and learn more about the project's achievements at the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels (see article below).

What's up EUSALP?

Cooperation between the Alpine Space programme and EUSALP grows further as time goes by. Over the past weeks, with the development of the Action Group (AG) work plans and the progress in project activities, the thematic exchanges have intensified and joint work is increasing. Here is an insight into the latest developments.

Mobility and logistics are not only a matter of transport of persons and/or goods, but also of communication and public acceptance. Public acceptance is one of the topics of the AG 4 (To promote intermodality and interoperability in passenger and freight transport) work plan discussed during their 5th AG meeting, on 20 June, in Trento (IT). AlpInnoCT represented by CIPRA International, proposed to work jointly to develop a common conflict map. This map could be used by the AG as well as during AlpInnoCT’s regional dialogue events and work on combined transport.

The environment has also been on the agenda, as on 8 and 9 June, AG6 (To preserve and valorise natural resources, including water and cultural resources) members met in Pörtschach am Wörthersee (AT). Exchanges were organised along the three sub-topics “Spatial development and soil conservation”, “Future oriented farming and forestry” and “Integrated and sustainable water management”, and Links4Soils and AlpFoodWay contributed by actively proposing cooperation actions on the first and second sub-topics.

Green infrastructure is becoming a key issue on the EU level and the Alps could become a model region. This is the basis for the work of AG 7 (To develop ecological connectivity in the whole EUSALP territory), also in coordination with the Alpine Space projects ALPBIONET2030, HyMoCARES and Los_Dama! The latter co-organised the last meeting of the AG on 31 May in Munich (DE), which focused mainly on the urban aspects of green infrastructure. In order to raise awareness of policy-makers on this issue, AG7 is preparing a joint political declaration and will organise a Green Infrastructure Ministerial Conference that will be held on 2 October in Munich (DE).

Focusing on the governance of climate change adaptation, GoApply substantially supports the activities of AG8 (To improve risk management and to better manage climate change, including major natural risk prevention) as confirmed in the last AG8 meeting on 15 and 16 March on Germany's highest mountain: Zugspitze. In particular, the project will develop an information and consultation model to facilitate the alignment of national and macro-regional measures for climate change adaptation. More joint activities will be started at the next AG8 meeting which will take place on 19 September in Innsbruck (AT).
