Main objectives
The project focuses on S3 in the context of the Global Value Chains, in particular on trans-nationalising the RIS3 approach to boost the SMEs competitiveness in the Alpine space. The main objective is to teach to entrepreneurs how to implement successful strategies for gain a position in the global value chains and how to recognise windows of opportunities for their businesses. A second aim is to improve regional policy instruments implemented under the ERDF for enhancing innovation and development of regional industrial clusters. The topic calls for interregional knowledge building, mapping potential around GVCs between regional smart specialisation priorities and identifying some pilot examples of interregional value chains, key stakeholders and relevant actors and skills.
Description of activities
Our project aims at strengthening the role of SMEs in the Alps area through the implementation of smart specialisation strategies to enter, learn and upgrade along the Global Value Chain (GVC). Education and research centres are relevant for analysing and modelling new frameworks of actions for SMEs in the Alps, considering the clusters and the features of the area. The results will be the development of transnational models for implementing successful strategies for catching-up in the GVC. Then, useful policy recommendations for a policy mix strategy in the framework of the ERDF will be provided. The partnership aims at creating or modifying existing policy instruments to boost the role of SMEs in the GVC. Workshops, communication tools and trainings will be the activities implemented.
Envisaged outcomes
We foresee the reinforcement of industrial clusters in every region involved through the preparation of Business Models for SMEs to trans-nationalise the RIS3 strategy and to enter and strengthen their position in the GVC. Moreover the implementation and the improvement of policy instruments in the regions will support them and raise their role as guide for the SMEs operating in the area. Finally the project will increase the collaboration among the partners and the creation of solid networks that will last in the long run. This will help in testing and developing models to stimulate collaboration and organisations in the area.

Comments on partners wanted
  • At the moment we are looking for other motivated partners to include other Alpine regions in our proposal. We want to enlarge our network for both respecting the call standards and to strengthen the territorial consequences that our project can have. We are looking for mainly public entities that can have a real impact on policy instruments, anyway any other collaboration is well considered.
