Work Package 1: Identification & inventory of Alpine Food Intangible Cultural Heritage

WP responsible partner: Lombardy Region 

Goal is to generate sustainable development in the Alpine Space and offer future generations living opportunities in mountain areas through the realisation of an inventory of the extraordinarily diverse Alpine food cultural heritage. It will examine the value chain connecting agriculture, food, productive landscape and economical aspects to identify Alpine Intangible Cultural Heritage core values and contribute to make a transnational Alpine identity emerge. 

Activities
  • Inquiry to identify Alpine Food Heritage value chain
​Socio-Cultural Inquiry to bring out the value chain that binds past present and future and develop a common understanding of the Alpine Food Heritage into different Alpine Space territories to reinforce the transnational Alpine identity and to develop safeguard policies on Intangible Cultural Heritage Alpine foodways. 
  • Inventory to identify single elements of Intangible Alpine Food Heritage
​Implementation of an online community-based Intangible Cultural Heritage inventory of a section to describe significant elements of Alpine Food heritage. Inventorying will be implemented in a large Alpine Space area in four languages. It will be publicly accessible in order to encourage creativity in the communities where expressions and practices originate. It will be the base to formulate concrete plans of safeguarding. It will increase public access to open digital cultural contents. 
  • Community rights and Intangible Cultural Heritage intellectual property

​Explore ethical and legal issues related to traditional knowledge in the Alpine food heritage chain with specific reference to the interaction between different levels of regulations, the social use of land and property, the definition of collective Intellectual Property Rights suitable for food heritage chains, and measures to prevent/reduce the risk of illegal exploitation and favour the sustainable commercialisation of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
