Plastics Innovation Competence Center

Plastics Innovation Competence Center (PICC) is member of Innosquare, an innovation platform created by the HES-SO//Fribourg and sustained by the economic regional agency. It runs the Institute for Applied Plastics Research, delivers industry-relevant technology solutions, and performs world-leading R&D in plastics material development, processing, and application design. R&D focusses on Injection Moulding, Extrusion, E-Spinning, 3D Printing, Plasma Surface Functionalisation, emphasising Bio-based Functional Materials use. It helps existing and new business to innovate: in fossil to renewable, scale-up, channel to market, novel services and products. It participates as leading partner in the BIOSMART H2020 project aimed at all-bio-based functional packaging. Dr. Rudy Koopmans directs the PICC, after 33 years Dow Europe experience and leading 18 EU FP with a majority on bio-inspired materials development and is member of the Materials for Europe2035, strategy setting committee.

Role in the project

PICC is the lead partner of the project, lead of WP T2 "Development of methodology and tools" and co-lead of WP C. He is accompanied by the Business Upper Austria as ERDF-LP

Business Upper Austria – OÖ Wirtschaftsagentur GmbH

Business Upper Austria (BIZ-UP) is developing, coordinating and running Upper Austria's S3 since 1998, BIZ-UP is Upper Austria's centre of competence for cross-company cooperation, project management, innovation support, development of new business models, networking and internationalization. More than 2.300 companies are members. With more than 528 regional projects involving more than 2100 companies in 18 years, and about 35 EU-funded projects annually, technological and organizational innovation is fostered. The Cluster is the platform for environmental technology and energy technology companies in Upper Austria. It strengthens the innovative power, competitiveness and visibility of partner companies. It contributes to market growth in the field of sustainable environmental and energy technologies along the value chain. The cluster forms the interface between companies, research and educational institutions, decision-makers and users. The cluster initiates, promotes and coordinates the cooperation of 250 partners

Role in the project

Business Upper Austria has the financial lead (ERDF) and is responsible for project financing, monitoring and reporting. The project partner is involved in designing work package WP T3 Demonstration of value chains by implementing pilot actions.

ClusterAgentur Baden-Württemberg

ClusterAgentur Baden-Württemberg (CABW), hosted by VDI/VDE-IT supports 110 cluster initiatives in Baden-Württemberg in different fields, e. g. facilitate technology transfer and cross-sectoral innovation between cluster initiatives. Supporting cluster managers to provide new services to initiative cross-sectoral innovations among SME as well as helping them going international are main tasks of the CABW. In addition, CABW is the operational arm of the Ministry for Economy, and responsible for the implementation of RIS3.

Role in the project

CABW is actively involved in all WPs and leader of W T4 "Policy Development". Expert knowledge will be provided for WP T1 and WP T2.

Poly4EmI hosted by Anteja ECG d.o.o.

Anteja hosts the Poly4EmI that bundles Slovenian actors active in the biobased industry. Poly4EmI promotes the transition to bio-economy through cross-fertilization of value chains. Poly4EmI brings into the project leading knowledge in Value Chain mapping and a network of bio companies. The firm is one of the few institutions worldwide specializes in value chains, related clusters, and bio-related policies. Sustained focus on market-oriented bio-based value chains resulted in most advanced methods and tools that proved to be instrumental for emerging bio-based industries. They were used in recent biobased initiatives supported by WBG, EU and bilateral institutions worldwide. Anteja as a host of the Poly4EmI ensuring that results of bi orealted projects e.g. new policy tools, analysis, cases studies, projects ideas, services, S3 are further developed and resulted in new cross-regional value chains.

Role in the project

Poly4EmI leads WP T1 and co- lead WP T4. Poly4EmI will exert leadership in tasks "Analysis and policy instruments" and "Cluster mapping" and support CABW for the policy synthesis and in managing policy dialog

Centre of Alpine Studies of Pieve Tesino

CSALP is an Inter-Department Center of the University of Tuscia. Personnel staff will be involved from the Department DIBAF, which is a multidisciplinary research and teaching department whose aim is the scientific innovation and technological processes of exploitation, conservation and management of biological systems, food processing, forest resources and landscape,. Special attention is to forest-wood chain, green economy, wood science and technology. The University of Tuscia is part of the National Cluster of Green Economy, it is involved and acts as leader in regional projects, national projects (PRIN) and EU projects. University personnel is involved in technical Committees of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Role in the project

Co-leader WPT3, involved with the skills of forest and wood resources, performing research and inventory analysis. It will map wood forest biomass, characterize chemical and morphological wood biomass looking to the final high value innovative product.

Confindustria Lombardia

Confindustria Lombardia (CFL) is Lombardy’s Entrepreneurial Federation, composed by 10 associations representing 13'000 companies and 7'000 employees. The federation is able to reach the most innovative and internationalized manufacturing companies and is playing an active role in the development of 9 regional tech clusters. We actively support innovation and internazionalization of the whole bioeconomy value chain, representing both multinational companies and SMEs from Chemical, Pharma and Biotech sector. CFL actively cooperates with biotech and chemistry sectoral federation. By cooperating with national/international political and socioeconomic institutions Universities and research centers it aims increasing the competitiveness of Lombardy’s in Europe. CFL has been committed in promoting the implementation of EUSALP Strategy, working in close collaboration with Lombardy Region and European stakeholder. CFL is part of Enterprise Europe Network.

Role in the project

WP C Leader. Develop the communication plan. Manage promotional and digital activities. Organize workshops and public events, final conference and final publication following greening principle. Involved in all other WPs.

BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg GmbH

BIOPRO Baden-Wurttemberg GmbH as a state-owned agency focuses on bioeconomy, biotechnology and healthcare in the state of BW. BIOPRO has extensive experience in management of complex multi-stakeholder projects with clusters,networks, politics, companies and academia (regional & international), resulting in a long trackrecord in supporting innovation by pooling competencies. Est.in 2002 by the Ministry of Finance and the Economics and the Ministry of Sciences, Research and the Arts, BIOPRO also is in close collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection and the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector in BW. As a key player in BW for bioeconomy BIOPRO has a longterm experience in establishing new value chains and will bring all its knowhow and contacts in the AlpLinkBioEco project. BIOPRO was lead partner in german BMBF funded Cluster Biopolymers/Biomaterials and is actually leading the Interreg DTP project DanuBioValNet.

Role in the project

BIOPRO is co-lead of the WP T3 where 4 value chains across the Alpine Space will be established in the sectors of wood, agriculture, food and pharmaceuticals and chemistry. Outputs will be the identification of high added value applications and products.

Hub Innovazione Trentino

HIT is a non-profit consortium established by the University of Trento, Bruno Kessler Foundation, Edmund Mach Foundation and Trentino Sviluppo, promoting Trentino's economic development through innovation, technology transfer and exploitation of scientific research. HIT is a partner of the EIT KICs, a member of national technology clusters and is active in several EU projects. HIT contributes to the implementation of the RIS3 (Smart Specialisation Strategy) of the Autonomous Province of Trento promoting research-to-industry platforms, ventures, business incubation and acceleration and strategic partnerships. HIT sustains the regional development agency in the development of strategic priorities including circular and green economy. HIT supports Progetto Manifattura, the regional clean tech incubator, assisting the establishment of research and innovation joint laboratories and technology transfer activities.

Role in the project

HIT co-leads WP T2 coordinating the elaboration of the whitepaper and supporting the development of the value chain generator. HIT participates to all WPs for regional tasks disseminating the results through its network of national clusters, EIT and EC.

Technologiezentrum Horb GmbH&Co.KG

TZH and its cluster Innonet Kunststoff, founded 2006 by industries fischerwerke, Arburg; SME´s Proplast, Hauff; R&D SKZ; government agencies Horb, Freudenstadt. June 2017: 100 plastics related members (25% in Alpine region), mainly SME, also industries and institutions. Objectives since 2016 for bio based plastics: initiate technical knowledge exchange; provide information and contacts; sensitize for societal, political and economic importance and find solution for a European based, stable and sustainable availability of bio based plastic compounds and their end products. Experience: preparation of roadmap for bio based products from biomass to end product with interaction of SME, industry and R&D; accompanying previous project: PLA from not nutrient conflictive bio mas; accumulation of best practise of network members; permanent exhibition of bio based products. Members with long experience involved in bio plastics: fischerwerken (industry); Hauff, PLAtons (SME); Fraunhofer, SKZ (R&D).

Role in the project

TZH is actively involved in all WPs, providing expert knowledge for all WPs.

Lombardy Green Chemistry Association

Established in 2013 on the initiative of the Regional Government, LGCA is intended to promote the development of bioeconomy and green economy in Lombardy. The Region benefits from a strong manufacturing sector, a significant supply of biomass, a competitive agriculture, robust R&D&I, an efficient infrastructure and one of the richest end markets in Europe. LGCA links all major players and represents the ideal access point for all foreign partners interested in fostering their cooperation with Lombardy. LGCA is a member of the National Technology Cluster of Green Chemistry SPRING and is involved in the Vanguard Initiative as administrative and Technical secretariat of Bioeconomy Pilot, with 7 ambitious demo cases project which will be developed in the next years.

Plastipolis

Plastipolis is the only french competitiveness cluster dedicated to Plastic and Composites Industry, gathering more than 400 members, among them 250 companies, and 90 R&D center and universities. Plastipolis fosters and develops innovation for Plastic and Composites Industry, thanks to collaborative R&D projects. Plastipolis also fosters international and European technological partnerships. Plastipolis is very experienced in European project management and action, and especially INTERREG Project. In addition, Plastipolis have significant experience in bio-based material project, which is one main topic in its strategy, as well in national project as in European project like Degricol or EUROPHA (FP7 project).

Role in the project

Plastipolis will participate in the WP T1 and T2, on mapping activities, on the definition of new services and tools. Plastipolis will identify of high added value products (WP T3). Plastipolis will also participation to communication activities (WP C).

France Clusters

France Clusters is a network of almost 150 French cluster organizations. A third are located in the Alpine Space area and many are involved in the bio-based industry. Since 1997, France Clusters has been accompanying clusters in their work with enterprises, with the purpose of fostering inter-clustering cooperation both at French and international level. To do so, the association has prepared a printed map and an online catalogue of the French clusters illustrating their sectorial expertise. Furthermore, it supports the work of sectorial and trans-sectorial cluster communities and signs partnerships agreements with other cluster networks in the world. France Clusters is also a services and training centre for cluster managers. Finally, the association contributes to the development of clusters’ policies both in France and abroad.

Role in the project

France Clusters will participate in all of the WP: in particular in mapping activities (T1), and in contributing to the work on the whitepaper and on the pilot value chains (T2, T3 and T4), as well as in communication activities (C).

Ministry of Education, Science and Sport

MIZS is responsible for regulating all levels of Education, as well as fields of Science and Sport. The Science Division as part of the Science Directorate, which will operationally lead the process at the ministry, defines the expert base for the adoption of political documents in the field of Research and Innovation policy. It drafts laws and implements regulations on research activities. It establishes and enhances the system of comprehensive analyses and monitoring of the developments in research, develops new tools for attaining research policy goals, and plans the required financial resources for research. Furthermore, by taking part in projects and initiatives on a EU level, MIZS has become an active supporter of developing and promoting bioeconomy in Europe. Namely is this seen by managing ERA-NET projects in the field of bioeconomy, partnering in Horizon 2020 project PLATFORM, coordinating a pilot project Poly4EmI and taking part in Interreg Danube with project DanuBioValNet.

Role in the project

Have an important role as policy-maker in the field of research & innovation. This particularly means to include other policy-makers in the activities of the project and form a platform of public support towards the support of bioeconomy through clusters.

Chemistry Cluster Bavaria

CCB is a market-oriented R&D network of start-ups, SMEs, enterprises, global players, leading experts in chemical engineering and operators of industry parks as well as research institutes and universities. As part of the Bavarian State Government’s cluster initiative, the CCB promotes and fosters innovation and development in the chemical sector and related fields in Bavaria and beyond. With its three business divisions, Unit Market Development, Innovation Project Development and R&D Projects and Public Funding, CCB supports its members and partner organizations in the realization of interdisciplinary research projects, identification and development of novel national and international markets and full exploitation of their innovative potential. CCB’s core competences is the development of networks, the initiation of mutual dialogues and collaborations between actors from different sectors and locations. Our long-lasting experience gives us the competences to support this project.

Role in the project 

CCB will act as a project partner, responsible for implementation of the project activities in Germany. It will cover identification, contacting of companies and research facilities within the value chains and establishing of relationships.
