Municipalities have been called to play a leading role in mitigation and adaptation processes to climate change. This is especially true for the Alpine space area, where the effects of climate change often occur with devastating consequences. In order to better address these challenges, many municipalities have developed strategic documents, such as the SEAP/ SECAPs or other energy and climate planning documents. Very often, however, municipalities face various difficulties in implementing concrete initiatives and projects aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions in their territory.

The project PEACE_Alps aims to provide shared solutions to address the difficulties that many municipalities face in overcoming and implementing concrete measures in different partner regions.

Nearly one year before the end of the project PEACE_Alps, there are many measures implemented by the different project partners: for example, in some regions, vulnerability analysis and climate change risk assessments have been carried out to develop some useful measures for the local adaptation to climate change, while other regions are implementing energy accounting and energy management systems at the local level. In addition, quality systems and energy consumption management are being realized, as well as the modernization of public lighting and the sharing of building consumption data to allow scheduling energy efficiency measures.

In particular, in South Tyrol a practical guide was drawn up for the standardized collection of data needed to carry out the energy accounting of buildings and municipal facilities. Furthermore, in order to support Municipalities in their efforts to improve and reduce the consumption of their buildings, a series of energy diagnosis have been conducted, which envisaged the analysis of the consumption of sixteen public buildings, for eleven of these buildings also an analysis of  their enclosure and their respective technical installations have been realized. These analyses have thus allowed to identify a scale of priorities for energy efficiency interventions that the municipalities will be able to follow in their refurbishment process of real estate assets.

The achieved results will then be shared and made available to those who want to undertake similar paths in the Alpine Space area. In this regard, the project envisages an information campaign and involving new stakeholders to promote this type of theme using the same approach to implementing measures.
