Local energy communities and smart energy systems are key elements to increase the use of renewable energy resources at a local level, helping locations with weak connections to the national grid to maximise their energy independence whilst also reducing carbon emissions.

One pilot village in Vorarlberg was simulated and calculated by FH Vorarlberg, thanks to IMEAS project. The results were presented at the FINAL CONFERENCE of IMEAS at 10th of October in Dornbirn, Vorarlberg with big interest of other communities, energy and net provider and experts.

The results of the calculations were interesting but also disappointing. Under the assumed framework conditions of the legislation, no money is generated that could make an energy community economically interesting. The electricity prices and net fees in Vorarlberg are so favorable that no profit margin remains.
