A cross-disciplinary, transnational and participative approach to Alpine food cultural heritage

Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley - Department for Education and Culture

BREL (Bureau régional ethnologie et linguistique, IT) is an organization dealing with Ethnology and Linguistics within the Department for Education and Culture of the Autonomous region of the Aosta Valley; for the Region as a whole, it acts as a “driver” for the promotion and the enhancement of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

It has extensive archives containing oral testimonies, images and a vast collection of 35 years of research work. Thus the Organization can tackle many issues from a scientific point of view. It avails itself of the cooperation of players and cultural mediators with proven expertise, for working on what are usually regional projects.

BREL plays a key role within AlpFoodway, in developing inventories and transferring best practices by implementing, experimentally, the marketing strategy defined in the project, in order to ensure a participatory approach to the enhancement of local products.
