A cross-disciplinary, transnational and participative approach to Alpine food cultural heritage

Trentino School of Management

Trentino School of Management (TSM, IT) is a consortium between the Autonomous Province of Trento and the University of Trento. It is committed to both training and applied research in the public and private sectors, with a particular focus on the role that economics plays in Trentino society. To promote culture and develop training actions on landscape and spatial planning, the Autonomous Province of Trento in 2008 founded "STEP – School for Spatial Planning and Landscape”, a small educational institute embedded in TSM

STEP is divided into three areas:

1) Education and training, awareness raising and communication
  • actions directed to administrators, public officers, experts and professionals on topics related to landscape, urban and spatial planning, natural resources;
  • events, exhibitions, seminars and meetings directed at the general public, local institutions and associations in order to promote the spreading of environmental and landscape management culture;
  • training and education for teachers and students.
2) Research, documentation, participation on landscape

STEP ensures support to the Landscape Observatory of Trentino (a Forum that brings representatives of public, social, and cultural institutions of Trentino together) for monitoring the evolution of the landscape, favour participatory processes, and develop strategies both for preservation and Trentino landscape heritage.

3) Education network of Dolomites UNESCO: education, training, networking

Education network of Dolomites UNESCO has the aim of developing a culture of participation and responsibility of the communities involved in the administration and development of the UNESCO Heritage.

Trentino School of Management plays a key role within AlpFoodway project, in exploring and developing the relations between the traditional foods, productive landscapes and farming practices through educational activities on food and landscape.
