Winner: Kaufmann Zimmerei und Tischlerei in recognition of the regional timber construction "Assembly hall of the Kaufmann carpentry“, Reuthe, Vorarlberg (Austria)

The Kaufmann carpentry built a new assembly hall for the space-consuming production and storage of modular pre-manufactured units. All timber products for the façade, walls and the roof (around 900 cubic metres) were purchased in the region, mainly from directly neighbouring sawmills and laminated timber producers. Regional spruce timber was used. Only the five big beams in the roof which must carry heavy loads are made of laminated beech timber which had to be purchased in Germany because it was not regionally available. All construction wood was processed on-site in the own production facilities.
The construction of the new assembly hall is a demanding and ambitious project for its motivation to select a type of construction that enables a regional processing chain with regional providers and producers, despite the background of the special conditions and requirements.
