Innovative Ecological Assessment and Water Management Strategy for the Protection of Ecosystem Services in Alpine Lakes and Rivers

  • EAW meeting and regional stakeholder meetings in May

Dear Eco-AlpsWater project partners and observers,

According to the persistence and worsening of the Covid-19 outbreak, all in-person Eco-AlpsWater (EAW) meetings have been canceled permanently. Therefore, we organize the next EAW meeting on 18th and 19th of May 2021 using teleconference (WEBEX). Please write to, if you wish to recieve e-mail invitation.

The program is available here. A complete program of the event and information on how to register and participate will available at begin of May. In the meantime, please save the dates in your agendas!

The workshop will consist of sessions to provide an overview of ongoing activities, their status, results, and perspectives to all the participants. To improve the knowledge transfer, we have four new activities:

    1. We want to create an FAQ - reply catalogue (Frequently Asked Question), so any of the stakeholders, observers and users will have the possibility to contribute a question to the method and to the taxa analysis. The EAW consortium will prepare the reply to the questions during summer and publish them on webpage and in a printed brochure.
    2. We have a concept of an “EAW taxa analysis tool” for easy access to taxa inventories by regional users. This tool will be improved and completed for the final EAW event.
    3. We report about the national and regional activities to implement eDNA sampling in water monitoring within and partly outside the EAW project.
    4. EUSALP representatives will be present and will report about EUSALP activities

On the afternoon of the second day, the 19th of May 2021 there will be regional stakeholder tele-meetings in parallel in the native languages.

Please inform other interested persons in your region.

  • Online seminar for College of Environmental Protection

On the 5th of May 2021 Slovenian partner NIB presented EAW activities to the younger public from the College of Environmental Protection in Velenje, Slovenia. Online lectures were divided into 6 parts, followed by fruitful discussion. Participants who attended the online seminar showed great curiosity and interest in contemporary methods. Tired of screens, but still interested in the water environments.

  • Lectures for high schools in Slovenia

In March, as part of the World Water Day (March 22), ARSO (project partner of the Eco-AlpsWater project) prepared interactive seminars for 3 high schools in Slovenia (for a total of approximately 240 students). We introduced them to the Eco-AlpsWaters project, problems of human impact on water, various methods for determining the water's ecological status, and their advantages and disadvantages. Due to Covid 19 epidemiology, the seminars were virtual, but nevertheless, students were actively involved; they asked a lot of questions, and in the end, they shared their opinion on the waters in Slovenia.
