Near-surface Geothermal Resources in the Territory of the Alpine Space

Railroads in Farchant & Oberstaufen (Germany)

Snow and ice free railroad switch with near-surface geothermal energy in Farchant and Oberstaufen (Bavaria, Germany).

Normally electric heating panels are attached to a switch to keep it ice free during winter, but Triple-S invented a system for passive or active heating through a heat pump (6,6kW) with a specially designed heat exchanger. Enhanced to the system is a weather station, which monitors the relevant atmospheric parameter to anticipate the correct heat demand at any weather condition.
