  • Ecofys Europe Needs to Triple Offshore Wind Installation

    If Europe wants to meet its Paris climate commitments and reach a CO2-neutral electricity supply by 2045, it will need to triple its current offshore wind installation rate, wrote the energy and climate consultancy Ecofys on its website last week.

  • Private bank funding for extreme fossil fuels fell by 22%

    The Fossil Fuel Finance Report Card 2017 has shown that in 2016, the first calendar year since the signing of the Paris Climate Agreement, funding for extreme fossil fuels from 37 of the largest private banks in North America, Europe, Japan, China, and Australia dropped by 22% from the previous year.

  • Juncker Plan Triggers More Than EUR 225bn in Investments

    Juncker's European investment plan is expected to trigger more than EUR 225 billion in investments across the EU. This is well over two-thirds of the EUR 315 billion target of total investments mobilised that was originally earmarked, and just two years after the establishment of the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), which lies at the heart of the plan, the EU Commission announced in mid-July.

  • IEA: Global Energy Investment Down 12% in 2016

    Global energy investment fell by 12% in 2016, the second consecutive year of decline, as increased spending on energy efficiency and electricity networks was more than offset by a continued drop in upstream oil and gas spending, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in its annual World Energy Investment report.
