The Alpine Space Project AlpFoodway kicked-off his activities in Marseille last February 2017. Partners worked on the project’s contents, topics and objectives and met the public in a special launch event of the AlpFoodway project: “Alpine Food Intangible Cultural Heritage between legal protection and commercial valorisation: insights from the AlpFoodway project”. AlpFoodway: food cultural heritage for a transnational Alpine identity

To create a sustainable development model for peripheral mountain areas based on the preservation/valorization of the Alpine Space cultural food heritage and on innovative governance, knowledge transfer and marketing tools and foster the emergence of a transnational alpine identity based on the common cultural values expressed in food heritage. This is the goal of AlpFoodway project, which officially started in February 2017, with the kick-off meeting of the project in Marseille, hosted by Kedge Business School in its La Joliette Campus.

Mountain Community of Camonica Valley is a sovra-local public body coordinating 42 municipalities in order to promote cultural heritage and support sustainable development. Within AlpFoodway project, the Camonica Valley is a pilot area to experiment innovative safeguarding processes applied to “sustainable” productive landscapes.

Regional Center of Alpine Population Studies

The Regional Center of Alpine Population Studies is an association of 11 alpine communities in the canton of Valais, bordered by France and Italy. The Center is specialized in local history, genealogy and ethnography, and have an animation sector which develops many public events to spread its research. In AlpFoodway, the Regional Center of Alpine Population Studies participates to the inventory of know how and cooking recipes, all from the raw material to the finished product.

Regional Development Agency of Northern Primorska Ltd. Nova Gorica

The Regional Development Agency of Northern Primorska Ltd. Nova Gorica was founded with the aim of uniting all local, regional and national potential and implementing nationally and internationally funded development projects. Its purpose is to identify within its environment the needs arising in the economicsocial and environmental sectors and to promote the development of the region. Within AlpFoodway project, the Regional Development Agency of Northern Primorska Ltd. Nova Gorica conducts an analysis of secondary sources to identify best/worst practices in the commercial valorization and exploitation of the Alpine Food Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts is a leading Slovenian research centre in the humanities and a cutting-edge academic institution in Central and Southeast Europe. Within AlpFoodway project, the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts contributes to the inventory of the Alpine food cultural heritage as well to the inquiry on Alpine food heritage values and community rights on Intangible Cultural Heritage intellectual property.

It is committed to both training and applied research in the public and private sectors, with a particular focus on the role that economics plays in Trentino society. Trentino School of Management plays a key role within the AlpFoodway project, in exploring and developing the relations between the traditional foods, productive landscapes and farming practices through educational activities on food and landscape.

BREL (Bureau régional ethnologie et linguistique) is an organization dealing with Ethnology and Linguistics within the Department for Education and Culture of the Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley; for the Region as a whole, it acts as a “driver” for the promotion and the enhancement of the Intangible Cultural HeritageBREL contributes to the project in developing inventories and transferring best practices by implementing, experimentally, the marketing strategy defined in the project, in order to ensure a participatory approach to the enhancement of local products.

Its mission is to improve the welfare of people living in these areas through development activities. Within AlpFoodway project, the Development Agency for Upper Gorenjska carries out an inventory of Alpine Food Intangible Cultural Heritage on regional level and provides one pilot action in Slovenia, held in the pristine village of Rateče.

The Munich University of Applied Sciences is the second largest university of applied sciences in Germany. The Department of Tourism at Munich University of Applied Sciences is the largest academic department in the field of tourism in Germany and takes the lead of work package T3, which aims to develop alpine wide experimental pilot actions in large protected areas to support knowledge transfer from heritage communities among generations.
