This week in our “Meet Our Project Partners” series, we would like to introduce our DiMark Project Partner (PP) ARPAV, the Regional Agency for Environmental Prevention and Protection of Veneto, Italy. ARPAV, since its foundation in 1996, has been working for the protection of the environment through its technical and scientific expertise, by means of environmental controls that safeguard the population’s health and the territory’s safety, and for prevention, through research, training, information, and environmental education.

About ARPAV
As a public authority, ARPAV’s mission is to monitor and protect the environment to reduce risks to human health and nature. The agency’s work covers various environmental activities, such as the monitoring of air, water, soil, and radiation, as well as pollution control and environmental risk prevention. ARPAV’s extensive and well-structured network connects public institutions and private organizations, working together towards a safer and more sustainable future for the Veneto region and beyond.

ARPAV’s Role in DiMark
Within the DiMark project, ARPAV is responsible for collecting and evaluating environmental data obtained through traditional monitoring.
ARPAV will closely collaborate with other PPs creating a transnational network for supporting the exchange of knowledge and the implementation of new solutions by water managers.
ARPAV is working to form a group of experts collaborating with the project partners of the DiMark project, which aims to harmonize environmental and water quality data/indicators across the Alpine region, which later will be used to develop and validate two innovative ready-to-use solutions: DiMark’s online visualisation tool and cyano-risk prevention model.
The project will contribute to the new Water Framework Directive through transnational scientific innovation, directly benefiting water managers and indirectly benefiting all citizens.
The Agency also plays an active part in sharing knowledge and engaging with stakeholders and the wider public. ARPAV coordinates eight important observers in the project, including regional and national environmental agencies (APPA-BZ, APPA Trento, ARPA-FVG), local governance authorities (Comunità del Garda, Regione Veneto), utility and research partners (AGS – Gardesana Water and Waste Management Company, University of Verona – Department of Computer Science, A.I.). This broad collaboration helps bridge the gap between policy and community.
A Broader Vision.
By testing and validating advanced tools for water management, ARPAV directly contributes to the long-term protection of Alpine lakes – in hopes that these unique ecosystems can be vital for generations to come.
Stay tuned for more project news where we will highlight other partners contributing to DiMark project progress!
