On 1–2 December 2025, the Final Transnational HACK-IT-NET Workshop entitled “Future Health, Shared Solutions: From Challenges to Change” successfully brought together health and care stakeholders from across the Alpine Space in an online co-creation event.
The workshop represented the final milestone of the project’s series of hackathons, following ten regional HACK-IT events implemented by project partners in their respective territories. The transnational workshop provided a shared space for exchange, cooperation and co-creation among representatives of healthcare organisations, research institutions, public authorities, innovators and technology providers from six Alpine countries.
Structured as a two-day interactive HACK-ITathon, the workshop combined plenary sessions with parallel moderated working groups. Participants applied design thinking and collaborative innovation methods to jointly address common challenges in health and care systems and to test the transferability of regional hackathon approaches to a transnational context.
The workshop focused on three key thematic approaches of the HACK-IT-NET project:
- CAREAVAN – Act Green, Operate Smart, addressing sustainability and resource efficiency in healthcare systems;
- STEMLAB – Time to Care, exploring digital solutions to reduce the workload of hospital staff;
- POLICYPARLEY – System-Ready Innovation, supporting cultural change and innovation in health policy and prevention.
As a result of the intensive collaboration, three conceptual solutions were developed:
- an interactive sustainability game fostering green practices in hospitals;
- an AI-based nurse assistant supporting clinical workflows;
- and an AI-driven policy toolbox for data-informed prevention and decision-making.
All solutions demonstrated strong potential for transferability and further development at regional and transnational level.
The Final Transnational HACK-ITathon confirmed the value of cross-border cooperation and interdisciplinary co-creation in tackling complex health and care challenges. It also highlighted how digital tools, gamification and AI-supported approaches can enhance engagement and innovation, even in virtual environments. Promising concepts emerging from the workshop will be further explored through follow-up activities and regional pilot actions, reinforcing HACK-IT-NET’s contribution to more sustainable, digital and resilient health and care systems in the Alpine Space
