The European Commission has launched the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Facility 2025–2027, a multi-annual funding instrument that supports innovative solutions for transforming neighbourhoods into more sustainable, inclusive, and aesthetically high-quality living environments.
This initiative is particularly relevant for the Alpine region and projects like BAUHALPS, where local identity, landscape, and sustainable living are key drivers of development.
What is the NEB Facility?
The NEB Facility is part of the EU’s Horizon Europe programme and draws from other EU funding sources. It is designed to support both research and implementation of NEB-aligned solutions.
It consists of two main components:
- Research & Innovation (R&I) component
Supports research, testing, and demonstration projects with an estimated budget of €120 million per year (2025–2027) - Roll-out component
Supports large-scale deployment and implementation of NEB solutions through other EU programmes (e.g. Cohesion Policy)
Calls for proposals now open
The first funding opportunities under the R&I component are now available via Horizon Europe.
- Deadline to apply: 12 November 2025
Key themes:
- Connecting green transition, social inclusion, and local democracy
- Circular and regenerative approaches to the built environment
- Innovative funding and business models for neighbourhood transformation
Why it matters for BAUHALPS and Alpine stakeholders
Projects developed in the Alpine Space — particularly in rural, peri-urban or mountainous contexts — can benefit from:
- EU-level funding to test and implement NEB-aligned solutions
- Stronger integration with the European NEB community
- Opportunities to scale local innovations and contribute to European policy goals
