Exciting updates from AlpsLife! The partnership convened on 17th and 18th June in Switzerland, in the beautiful Swiss National Park, to bring the activities of the project a step further. Here is a glimpse of what unfolded:
🔹 Introduced how to comprehensively 𝐦𝐚𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐥𝐩𝐬 through high-resolution land-use/land-cover layers and related indicators, including the geographic localization of biodiversity hotspots and Urgent-need-to-Act Areas (UTAAs).
🔹 Shared progress on gathering 𝐭𝐚𝐱𝐨𝐧-𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 and evaluation criteria used by expert-based working groups.
🔹Discussed preliminary insights into 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐮𝐬𝐞 through the Alpine protected areas.
🔹 Strategized on 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 and impactful communication to amplify the project outcomes.
The highlight of this gathering was an inspiring field trip through the Swiss National Park, where the AlpsLife team explored currently in use cutting-edge monitoring techniques in the very heart of alpine biodiversity.
As we wrapped up our two-day gathering at the park´s visitor center, we were reminded of the Alps’ beauty we need to protect!
