World Water Day, 22.3.

Mar 23, 2026

The World Water Day reminds us that protecting freshwater ecosystems requires continuous effort. The DiMark project contributes to improving lake monitoring and management across the Alpine region by combining satellite Earth observation with traditional water-quality indicators.

These innovative approaches help detect ecological changes, including harmful algal blooms, and support more effective and timely lake management. As part of the project, a developing online visualisation tool, Alplakes, allows users to explore lake-monitoring data and indicators across the Alpine region.

The project also builds the Transnational DiMark Network, connecting scientists, lake managers, policymakers, and other stakeholders interested in sustainable lake management.

👉 Join the Transnational DiMark Network and collaborate in improving the protection of our lakes. More information and contact details are available on the DiMark project website.
