Last Spring, Waterwise joined the “European Manifesto for a Governance of Glaciers and Connected Resources” promoted by CAI, CGI, CIPRA ITALIA, EUMA and Legambiente.
“Key points at the heart of the document are reducing greenhouse gas emissions, more adaptation actions together with a European governance of glaciers and high-altitude resources, greater international cooperation between researchers, civil society and institutions, and information and awareness-raising campaigns”, say the promoters, and these are the key reasons why Waterwise as a consortium dediced to sign the Manifesto.
The initiative has been a significant success, with around 70 signatories from across Europe and positive media coverage – a success that deserves more visibility. For this reason, Legambiente, the Italian Glaciological Committee and CIPRA Italy, in collaboration with CAI (Italian Alpine Club), decided to dedicate the preview of Carovana dei Ghiacciai (Glaciers’ Caravan) 2025 (Glacier Caravan 2025) an international campaign now in its sixth edition, to the Manifesto, promoting its contents and strengthening the European network built together.
The event will take place on the 2nd of August, 2025 on the Adamello glacier, the largest glacier in the Italian Alps but, unfortunately, also one of the most threatened by the effects of the climate crisis. Representatives of Waterwise will be there to stand together with the organizers for urgent actions to protect the “white giants” of the Alps.
The collaboration between Waterwise and the Glaciers’ Caravan does not end here: at the of August, in Garmisch – a town close to the Zugspitze, one of the project pilot areas – there will be an event to strenghten the close relations between our project and the campaign. More information about this will follow.
