On Saturday August the 2nd, some of Waterwise representatives participated in the Glaciers’ Caravan – a campaign by Legambiente Alpi – launch event at Passo del Tonale (Italy), below the Presena glacier.
The event raised awareness about the glaciers’ situation in Italy and Europe, reporting on the successful results gained by the Manifest for a European Governance for Glaciers and Connected Resources that was promoted by Legambiente, CIPRA Italy, CGI and CAI this past Winter and signed by, among many others, the Waterwise project.
Waterwise shares goals and priorities together with the Manifest, such as the need for a transnational cooperation to build more effective governance tools for glaciers and high-altitude resources and the need for more adaptation actions.
A symbolic hand chain was formed around the call for a European governance for Glaciers and together the participants asked repeatedly for immediate actions to put a patch on the hole that has been torn apart so far.
The initiative was an important occasion for visibility and networking and Waterwise actions were thouroughlly disseminated through a short speech by Maria Vittoria Tenci, one of the researchers in attendance, and through communication material.
