The first edition of the Biodiversity Monitoring Week was recently held in Montpellier (4-8 May), marking an important milestone for biodiversity monitoring in Europe. It has brought together Europe’s biodiversity monitoring community in a space dedicated to exchange, collaboration, and future-oriented thinking.
AlpsLife was presented through a scientific poster, contributing to the broader discussion on how to better monitor, understand, and protect biodiversity in the Alpine region.
The project’s message focused on addressing a key challenge highlighted throughout the week: while a wide range of monitoring initiatives already exist across Europe, these efforts often remain fragmented. Strengthening harmonization, interoperability and collaboration is essential to make biodiversity data more comparable, usable, and impactful for decision-making.
Participating in this dialogue was a valuable opportunity for AlpsLife to position its results within a broader European context, while also learning from inspiring initiatives across countries and sectors.
Looking forward to contributing to a more coordinated and effective biodiversity monitoring system in Europe!
