Description
Our partner Tenerrdis is organising a hackathon on 3 June at Les Grands Ateliers, dedicated to the sustainable renovation of the pilot site “Hôtel Club MMV Les Brévières” located in Tignes.

Around thirty architecture students and professionals from the Tenerrdis network (architects, engineering consultancies, reuse project managers, industrial partners) will come together in mixed teams to imagine concrete solutions, assessed according to the three criteria of the Bauhalps framework: sustainability and circular economy, aesthetic quality and landscape integration, inclusivity and promotion of local know-how.

Five Themes to Rethink Renovation Holistically

The hackathon will explore five themes reflecting the challenges of renovating a mountain hotel building.
  • The first theme will focus on programmatic flexibility: how to design a building capable of adapting to different uses depending on the season, while integrating co-design scenarios with other local stakeholders.
  • The second theme will address low-carbon renovation and the circular economy: how to integrate bio-based and local materials, develop reuse scenarios, while complying with existing regulations.
  • The third theme will explore building extension and vertical expansion, questioning its relationship with the Alpine landscape, the village of Les Brévières, and the neighbouring EDF hydroelectric facilities.
  • The fourth theme will focus on user journeys and spatial experience: from outdoor areas to guest rooms, ski storage areas and shared spaces — how can the overall coherence and accessibility of the site be improved?
  • The fifth theme will tackle seasonal worker housing: how to design compact, modular and comfortable living spaces compatible with the operational rhythm of a functioning hotel establishment?

From Idea to Prototype in One Day

  • Introduction to the objectives of the day, the Bauhalps framework and the site context. Team formation.
  • Brainstorming and ideation sessions, including cross-team pitching sessions.
  • Selection and evaluation of solutions according to Bauhalps criteria.
  • Prototyping using the infrastructure and tools available at Les Grands Ateliers.
  • Final presentation of projects before a jury and voting session: each participant will receive one million virtual euros to distribute among the projects they consider the most relevant and viable.

In France, the project is based on two pilot sites, including Hôtel Club MMV Les Brévières in Tignes, coordinated by Tenerrdis. Facing the specific challenges of mountain environments (seasonality, climate change adaptation, landscape integration), this building represents an ideal testing ground for applying the Bauhalps framework principles in real-life conditions.
