The Interreg Alpine Space programme is currently designing its successor for the 2028–2034 period. Task force meetings take place at regular intervals. This post reports on the outcomes of the most recent meeting.
On Monday 20th April, the first online meeting of the Task Force (TF) for the Interreg Alpine Space 2028+ programme design process took place. The kick-off formally launched the programming procedure and set the direction for a collaborative, forward-looking process that will shape the successor programme for 2028–2034. This meeting focused on introducing the members, reminding the role and function of the TF members and present the roadmap and defined worked packages of the programming process.

Launch and constitution of the Task Force
The Managing Authority (MA) presented the main tasks and responsibilities of the TF and proposed some working principles, agreed by the TF members.
Key words highlighted during the presentation reminded everyone the function of the TF: steering, co-creation and decision-making to deliver a high-quality, jointly owned programme. Indeed, members are expected to guide and safeguard the quality, relevance and timeliness of the programme preparation, with responsibility for defining programme objectives, priorities, actions and implementation structures.
With this kicked-off the work can start to establish the foundations for the 2028-2034 programming period. The TF agreed shared objective, allowing a coherent and positive collaboration.
Overview of the programme design process
The TF members received an introduction to the planned overall design process for the 2028–2034 programme. The programming process starts in April 2026 and will continue until the end of 2027. The timeline highlights three main field of activities:
- Governance, coordination and procurement management
- Definition of the strategic framework for the Interreg Alpine Space 2028-2034 programme
- Drafting and submission of the Interreg Plan Chapter (IPC) to the European Commission
Seven meetings are planned until the submission of the IPC.
Conclusion & Next steps
The TF members have agreed to initiate a tender procedure for external expertise to facilitate the programming process. The deadline of submission is expected by Friday 15th May 2026, followed by the assessment and selection on the 22nd May. The call for tenders can be found on our website here.
The next TF meeting is planned in-person on the 9th of July 2026 and will focus on defining the mission and purpose of the programme.
