The story showcases how the Auvergne–Rhône–Alpes region in France has become a European hotspot for climate adaptation and innovation. Through the work of the Auvergne–Rhône–Alpes Energy and Environment Agency (AURA-EE), the region is pioneering evidence-based decision-making, collaboration among local authorities and scientists, and the integration of adaptation and mitigation strategies to strengthen Alpine resilience.

The ADAPTNOW project played an important role in the preparation of this publication, contributing key insights, tools, and experiences that demonstrate how data-driven approaches and participatory methods can empower territories to act. Within the story, ADAPTNOW is highlighted for transforming the ClimaSTORY® methodology into a digital decision-support platform, linked with TerriSTORY® indicators. This evolution enables local authorities to co-create robust, locally tailored adaptation strategies and to scale successful solutions across the Alpine region.

For ADAPTNOW, this publication underlines the project’s contribution to strengthening adaptation capacity in Highly Affected and Exposed Territories in the Alps. It illustrates how European collaboration, shared learning, and the replication of good practices can turn vulnerability into resilience—advancing the EU Mission’s goal of building a climate-resilient Europe by 2030.
