CIRIDD at Mountain Planet 2026: advancing circular economy in the Alpine region through EUSALP AG2 and BAUHALPS

Apr 23, 2026

On Wednesday, 23 April 2026, CIRIDD participated in Mountain Planet 2026 in Grenoble, one of the leading international events dedicated to mountain development. The event brought together key stakeholders from across the Alpine region to discuss innovation, sustainability, and economic transformation in mountain territories.

CIRIDD contributed to the conference of Action Group 2 (AG2) of the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP), which focuses on fostering economic development across the Alpine area. The session provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on current challenges and emerging opportunities, particularly in relation to sustainable growth and circular economy approaches.

In collaboration with its Slovenian partner, Tehnološki park Ljubljana (TPL), CIRIDD presented the upcoming AG2 work programme for the period 2026–2028. The programme, co-developed with TPL, places a strong emphasis on accelerating the transition towards a circular economy in the Alpine region, with a focus on practical implementation and cross-sector collaboration.

The discussion also highlighted ongoing work within the BAUHALPS project (Building circular in the Alpine Space), which plays a key role in translating circular economy principles into concrete actions in the built environment. As the construction sector remains responsible for a significant share of greenhouse gas emissions and resource consumption, BAUHALPS is exploring how circular approaches—such as reuse of materials, adaptable design, and lifecycle thinking—can be effectively integrated into building practices.

Through a series of pilot actions across the Alpine region, BAUHALPS is testing innovative tools, methodologies, and collaborative models aligned with the principles of the New European Bauhaus. These efforts aim to support a transition towards buildings that are not only more sustainable and resource-efficient, but also inclusive, culturally sensitive, and responsive to local contexts.

CIRIDD’s participation at Mountain Planet 2026 reinforced the importance of transnational cooperation in addressing shared Alpine challenges and demonstrated the growing momentum behind circular construction as a driver for sustainable regional development.
