Empowering local communities to become aware of the future water challenges they may face: a goal shared by project Waterwise and the “Water and Glaciers” event, organized in Contamines-Montjoie.
Last Saturday the Tetraktys team was invited to present our project during this event, which aimed to raise awareness of water issues in mountain areas through films, conferences, debates and workshops. As Contamines-Montjoie is one of the 8 pilot areas of the project, where a workshop with local stakeholders was held last Spring, they also presented the initial findings of experiments conducted in the area to enhance knowledge of its future water resources.
This was a superb initiative by the local authorities to open a space for collective reflection on preserving water resources in all their diversity and questioning our current uses.
These forums are essential for reconnecting local people with their water systems: local communities that are well informed about future challenges to the availability of this resource will be better able to recognise its importance and work towards its preservation.
