Surrounded by Alpine lakes and mountains, the AlpsLife partnership convened for two days, on 12 and 13 May, in Annecy to discuss on how to strengthen cooperation for biodiversity across the Alps.
The participants, hosted by the Conservatoire d’espaces naturels de Haute-Savoie – Asters, had the opportunity to visist the wonderfull Roc de Chère Nature Reserve and learn about targeted conservation and monitoring actions for Alpine lakes ecosystems.
Key outcomes from the meeting included:
➡️Working at different spatial scales when mapping biodiversity in protected areas can lead to discrepancies, based on the species and area considered.
➡️Pointing out that effective data-harmonization starts by collecting as much data as possible to reveal gaps and overlaps
➡️Advancing the concept of a biodiversity monitoring platform, exploring key features such as multi-indicator tracking and user-friendly data integration to support a robust Alpine Early Warning System.
➡️Biodiversity governance remains fragmented across Alpine countries, making it challenging to obtain a clear overview at both national and Alpine levels.
➡️Translating science into policy needs coordinated action across scales, linking political networks and protected areas
