Lebensraumvernetzung Salzburg

Oct 8, 2025

The workshop Lebensraumvernetzung Salzburg took place on 24 September 2025 in Salzburg, Austria. It was organised by SIR Salzburg, in cooperation with Land Salzburg, Department 10 – Planning, Building, Housing (Abteilung 10: Planen, Bauen, Wohnen), as part of the PlanToConnect project.

The workshop focused on the topic of “Lebensraumvernetzung” (habitat connectivity) within the framework of the PlanToConnect project. Participants reviewed the foundational aspects of habitat networks in the Salzburg region, including key definitions, land-use conflicts and synergies, and current planning structures. The group discussed how to better integrate habitat connectivity into spatial planning instruments at the state, regional, and local levels. The discussion emphasized the need for stricter enforcement and timely updates of planning instruments, to ensure the protection of green corridors. Participants also highlighted that habitat connectivity should be viewed not as a barrier to development, but as a concept that can complement agriculture and forestry, and recommended clearer visual and spatial representation of these elements in regional and local plans for stronger implementation and protection.
