On 9 July 2025, the Veneto Region organised the hybrid workshop “Pressures and threats to ecological connectivity: the implementation of the Regional Ecological Network”, as part of the Interreg Alpine Space project PlanToConnect. Held in Venice at Palazzo Linetti and online, the event was led by Dr. Gioia Gibelli and facilitated by Dr. Marco Abordi.
The workshop introduced a three-phase methodology to assess vulnerability, design a regional ecological network (RER), and test applications through GIS-based tools. The session focused on transitioning from static to dynamic ecological infrastructure capable of influencing policy and territorial planning.
Key topics included:
– Structural components of Green and Blue Infrastructure (GBI);
– Ecosystem Services (ES) mapping and conflicts with land use;
– Major anthropogenic pressures and mitigation strategies;
– Case studies on Coastal Corridor B, Boite Stream, and the Litoranea Veneta;
– Tools for integration with urban and environmental planning procedures (PTRC, PAT, VAS, VINCA);
– Future actions: toolkits for planners, provincial guidelines, and training courses.
The workshop gathered regional stakeholders including:
– ARPA Veneto – Terrestrial Ecosystems Unit;
– Veneto Region – Departments of Environment, Ecological Transition, and Tourism.
Materials from the workshop will soon be available here.
