The ADAPTNOW project proudly presents its Policy Recommendations for Improving the Resilience of Alpine HAET (Highly Affected and Exposed Territories) — a comprehensive guide to strengthen climate adaptation across the Alpine region.
Developed through collaboration among 12 partners from 5 Alpine countries and tested in real pilot areas, these recommendations turn research and experience into practical actions for municipalities, policymakers, and communities.
The document identifies six key priorities to make Alpine territories more resilient and future-ready:
1. Promote climate-resilient spatial planning to integrate adaptation directly into urban and territorial development.
2. Establish climate adaptation monitoring systems to track progress and ensure measurable impact.
3. Empower communities and students through lifelong learning and inclusive climate education.
4. Foster municipal climate action with participatory planning and capacity building.
5. Provide financial incentives and funding mechanisms to support adaptation efforts.
6. Ensure harmonised and reliable data to enable evidence-based decision-making.
These recommendations are the result of an intensive, participatory process — including an Alpine Policy Roundtable and workshops involving experts, public authorities, and community representatives. Together, they mark a decisive step from planning to action in building climate-resilient Alpine territories.
