Description
  • Location: Hotel Astoria, Bled, Slovenia.
  • Format: hands-on workshop
  • Outcome: Participants create final products, such as:
    • Zero-waste shampoo with coffee exfoliants.
    • Apple leather accessories (earrings, book covers, decorations).

Challenges & Policy Recommendations:
  • Legislative Barriers: Current EU waste laws classify organic residues as "waste," limiting their use in industrial processes.
  • Proposed Solutions: Advocate for policy adjustments to recognize unavoidable food waste as a resource for material production.

Impact:

UpCycle showcases how cross-sector collaboration can turn waste into economic opportunities while reducing environmental footprints. By aligning tourism, agriculture, and design industries, this pilot lays the groundwork for scalable circular systems in the Slovenia Gorenjska region.
