CEFoodCycle nominated for the Austrian Europa-Staatspreis 2026

May 5, 2026

We are delighted to announce that CEFoodCycle has been nominated for the Austrian Europa-Staats-Preis 2026 in the category “Changing Europe”.

Organised by the Austrian Federal government, the Europa-Staats-Preis honours outstanding examples of European engagement by citizens and organisations for more than a decade. The award highlights initiatives that strengthen understanding of the European Union in Austria and contribute to cohesion across Europe.

This year, projects are competing across three categories: “Explaining Europe”, “Changing Europe”, and “Shaping Europe”. The nominated projects are evaluated based on key criteria such as impact, sustainability, innovation and creativity, as well as motivation. CEFoodCycle is among the ten nominated projects and competes in the “Changing Europe” category, which puts in the spotlight initiatives that promote social, technological, sustainable, or economic innovation and foster cooperation at the EU level.

About CEFoodCycle

With the overall objective of reducing food waste across Europe, and particularly in the Alpine region, CEFoodCycle maps food streams and identifies opportunities to close the food cycle across five circular food hubs in Austria, Slovenia, Italy, France, and Germany. The project has already delivered concrete outcomes benefiting Europe and its citizens, including pilot activities, stakeholder workshops, and the development of a digital tool (FoodCycle.ai).

CEFoodCycle was completed in October 2025 ending three years of hard work among the different partners led by the University of Applied Science Salzburg.

The award ceremony will take place on 6 May 2026 at 16:00. We are looking forward to the results!
