Workshop Great Walser Valley

Feb 10, 2025

On February 5, a four-hour workshop took place at the Living Lab Great Walser Valley as part of the TranStat project. The goal was to assess existing measures for sustainable tourism and develop new approaches.

The discussion was based on key transformation factors identified with stakeholders—crucial influences shaping the future of tourism in this alpine valley. Challenges and opportunities were explored in depth, with a particular focus on mobility and the preservation of cultural landscapes, especially mountain pastures. The results show that the main challenge will be to maintain the existing measures in the long term. In the area of mobility, a combination of smaller measures is needed. Gaining insights from approaches taken in other regions is seen as a valuable step forward.

A key element of the workshop was the phrasing of a shared vision for 2040: ” Great Walser Valley is adaptive, resilient, authentic, and independent. Through contemporary tourism, it provides the best quality of life for both residents and visitors while ensuring the preservation of natural and cultural landscapes.”

Representatives from politics, cable car operations, administration, KLAR! (Climate Change Adaptation Model Region), and the Biosphere Park management participated. The open, respectful, and constructive exchange gives cause for optimism. Valuable impulses for the sustainable development of tourism in the Great Walser Valley were set!
